Our Roots

Simply Sweet Bakes cannot be here today without honoring its roots.

Its All Good Bakery was founded in 1996 by Oakland's very own K-Cloud — a rapper, community figure, and visionary who once opened for MC Hammer on the iconic "Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em" tour. When his family came to him with the idea of opening a bakery, he wasn't convinced at first. But once he committed, he did it his way — and 30 years later, the impact speaks for itself.

Throughout its over 30 years in business, IAGB became far more than a bakery. It was a community pillar. From celebrity visits to being designated a historical landmark by the City of Oakland for its Black Panther roots — the building itself served as the first headquarters of the Black Panther Party — if you were part of this community, you knew its impact.

K-Cloud's commitment to community extended beyond the baked goods. He intentionally hired people others had overlooked, offering second chances and opportunities to those who needed them most. That spirit of generosity and community care is part of the legacy we carry forward.

When IAGB closed its doors suddenly in January 2026, it left a hole that the community felt deeply. The outpouring of love made clear just how much the bakery meant to Oakland.

Simply Sweet Bakes is not a replacement — it is the next chapter. Still family. Still rooted in the same love and dedication K-Cloud poured into every bake for three decades. The recipes are refreshed, the approach is new, but the heart remains the same.

We are forever grateful to Its All Good Bakery for paving the way for us to exist. The legacy continues.
